The Big Bang Theory fans have unearthed a new continuity error relating to Raj Koothrappali.
Besides pointing out Sheldon Cooper’s birthday inaccuracies, eagle-eyed audiences have also discovered how Raj (played by Kunal Nayyar) goes from speaking Hindi to later confessing that he’s never learnt Hindi in a more recent season.
Throughout the 12 series, the character shows off his language capabilities multiple times.
Take season one for example. In the sitcom’s second episode, titled The Big Bran Hypothesis, Raj thinks in Hindi as Penny (Kaley Cuoco) talks at him.
But as we jump forward to season 10’s Cognition Regeneration chapter, Raj tells Sheldon (Jim Cooper) that he’s never managed to pick up the language.
However, this confession then falls back on its head again in season 11 episode The Geology Methodology when Raj translates Ruchi’s (Swati Kapila) comments to Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) as she comments on the cricket.
Disgruntled fans pointed out the continuity error on Reddit, with one user posted: ‘In an earlier episode of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon speaks Hindi. Raj then asks him what it means because “he’s never learnt Hindi”.
Echoing a similar sentiment, NorthEastErnNomad added: ‘I love the show. I do. But whoever was in charge of the continuity – and I doubt anyone took it seriously – they did a p*** poor job of it.’
The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
